Tyres

Postby FuzzyVeggy » Thu Oct 30, 2008 1:40 pm

I'm thinking o buying a 2.5 or 3 litre X type estate however my son, who has a 2.5 saloon is experiencing excessive front tyre wear on the inside edge of both tyres. He has had the tracking checked which was fine. I understand that this is a known problem so my question is - Is there a known solution? If not what mileage can I expect from the front tyres?

It seems to be a common problem on executive cars such as the X Type. However, experiences of JEC members do differ. One member with a 2.5 AWD X Type fitted with the 16" wheels and 205/55 P6000 tyres was getting 30,000 miles from his tyres. The same person with an AWD 2.5 sport on 225/45 P Zeros only got 15,000 miles or so. As for myself I got 16,500 miles from my P Zeros due to wear on the inside edges.

I have produced an article for the X Type Forum on tyre wear which should be appearing in a couple of months in the magazine.

In the meantime buckMR2 has set up the front wheel alignment on his X type as paralell instead of toe out (as Jaguar recommends) and has no tyre wear on the inside edges. I should add that Jaguar give a wide tolerance in their X Type alignment settings and buckMR2's suggestion is within the Jag tolerance.

Tracking

Postby jagtech » Sun Nov 02, 2008 5:12 pm

who has checked you tracking if its not a dealer then they will have set it to the wrong settings jaguar have changed the specified settings i personelly set x-types to 0.25 to 0.5 mm toe in and have had no comebacks.
Another reason why visiting a dealer is ALWAYS the best option

Thanks for the replies. I will suggest to my son that he gets his tracking set by the local dealer in Ashford and see what happens. he has just had two new P6000 fitted so it will be interesting to see what they suggest for the tracking.
