Low fuel pressure 2.0D, X Type saloon, 53 plate

Diagnostics come up with low fuel pressure. Combined fuel pump/gauge sender in tank appears to have gone open circuit and also has no power feed to it. Has anybody else had this problem and any ideas as to cause and solution. Car will start, run for a couple of seconds and then stop

Might help if you put what car you have in your signature!!!
Petrol/diesel/year/model?????
Or should we just guess?

If this is the 2 litre diesel the high pressure fuel pump is at the left front of the engine. To get at it you need to remove the air cleaner including the bracket and the inlet manifold. There is only the sender unit in the fuel tank.
Worth checking fuel filter for metal particles.
