Jaguar x type 3.0 difficult to fuel

Hi.
I wondered if any one else had this problem.
I have a jaguar x type 3.0 that is very difficult to fuel. The pump constantly knocks off despite adjusting it's angle.
I've been told it's possibly a purge valve issue? Is this a huge repair?
Any help much appreciated.

Hi John,

First up, you have posted this question to the Members in the wrong section of the Forum, so hopefully one of our "Super Moderators" will be able to relocate it to the X-type model section in due course, where you may well receive additional insight.

In regards to your" issue" with fuelling your X-type, you don't advise as to whether it has only happened at one pump, one fuelling station, or with multiple pumps or multiple petrol stations. You also don't advise as to whether the "fault" is newly arisen, or whether it has ben going on since you purchased the car (when).

In most cases of this "issue" arising with a Jaguar, the fault actually resides with the pump / fuel station. Usually it means that the "choke" facility on that particular pump has been compromised and is set too sensitive, causing it to click off regularly. Did you report the "issue" to the cashier at the fuel station? Sometimes they are aware of the "issue" and can advise that it has already been reported, or conversely, they can report it to the owner, who can arrange to have it corrected.

Hi John,
The problem has been raised before to me and there is also a previous post in this section titled "Hard to Fill". Unfortunately I do not have a answer to the issue. The camera inspection of the filler tube is a good starting point, but I think there is also a tank venting system through a charcoal cannister that may have an effect if this blocks. Unfortunately work involved with removing the tank to remedy the problem does require a lot of labour. My next action would be to consult an expert like David Marks Garages who may have dealt with this before.

I agree with Dave on this. There are two valves on top of the fuel tank that each have two purposes: one, to vent the tank, especially when filling, so as to pass the fumes out through the charcoal filter to prevent pollution and second, to automatically shut off to prevent spillage in the event of the car rolling over, hence their name - roll-over valves. If these stick shut, filling would be impaired. Also you might get indicators such as a rush of air when removing the filler cap.
As Dave says, taking the tank out to get at the valves is not much fun!
