chrome bonnet leaper

Have had conflicting information as to the legality of having a chrome bonnet leaper fitted to my X-Type 2003 that has not originally had one.

Will insurance be invalidated ? and can police pull me up if one was fitted ?

This is a topic which has been raised numerous times over the years and my understanding is that it is best not to fit one if not an original feature of that model due to complications which you suspect. I have never seen any reference to any unwelcome action relating to one being fitted, but there is always a first time. Graham Searle at HQ is probably the best person to get the full picture from.

I always think that they look like a rather tacky and out of place addition on a modern car. and at trade - in time you will be on a loser as the hole will need filling which will mean at least a bonnet respray plus the metalwork which will cost hundreds.
