Front bumper cover removal

I want to respray my bumper cover and replace a broken fog lamp. Rather than mask every thing up I reckon it will be easier to spray the thing off the car.
Does any one know the procedure for removing the bumper cover?

any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tel,
It's a bit quiet isn't it.

I don't have a blow by blow method but for the earlier models I believe the procedure goes something like this:

Remove the radiator splash shield under the car

Remove the wheel arch liners.

Disconnect the three electrical connectors.

Undo two bumper screws, believed to be one each side from under the car - not sure exactly where they are.

Each side of the bumper is held on by retaining clips, I don't know how you pull them out, but be careful.

Make sure the bumper is supported before removing the four other securing bolts, two above each inner headlamp.

Remove the bumper

There is a further complication if you have headlamp washers.

To reinstall reverse the procedure

I believe things get a little more obvious when you have the radiator splash shield and wheel liners off from under the car.

Sorry I don't have specific step by step guidance but hope this info enables you to find your way through this and at least stops you from using the angle grinder!!

John, it was easier than that and no angle grinder required...

Millions of screws on undertray but no need to remove wheel arch liners, just remove the silly screws and bend placcy liners out of the way...

REPAIR CRASH DAMAGE Respray shot blasted plastic bumper, fit new fog lamp units, T-cut paint and stick it all back together..

Easy!

Nice car the X-Type...

Oh, they don't make it anymore....Silly me.
