Hello Folks,
I need to change the ABS sensor and hub as the sensor ring appears to have disintegrated. On my car 2001 3.0L AWD the sensor located thro the hub carrier (fotos) It is necessary to change the hub as the ring installs on it but i have been unable to source what i think is the correct hub and the hubs that i have seen have the sensor location at the rear of it and it has a different connector(fotos). Has anyone hit this problem or can advise on compatibilities? It looks like the connecting harness is different. Thanx in anticipation..Charlie.

First up Charlie, that photo of a hub is of one for a FWD X type according to the part numbers shown (C2S17483 has been superseded byC2S 46771). Your hub is C2S 46772, but here's the but!
On the AWD models, the sensor ring is not mounted on the hub assembly; it's on the driveshaft itself! The 'official' way ahead is to renew the whole driveshaft although that seems a bit extreme, so some of the wiser parts suppliers have produced replacement sensor rings such as this one on Ebay for £2.49, free P&P! Got to be worth a try!

Many thanx for that and the rapid response. As you say its gotta be worth a try. Wonder if there's any advice on installing it I.E Do's and Dont's.? It should be a case of taking the hub off and locating it accurately on the shaft body i.e. ensuring that it is located centrally under the sensor. It would be good to see a photo. By copy has anyone ever done this? Rgds.

When you get the driveshaft out, you'll probably find that the reluctor ring has been burst apart by the expansive characteristic of rust!
When it's all been cleaned up, you should find that that the new ring is a nice tap-on fit, however, due to loss of material it might actually be not quite as tight as you'd like it! Make sure the rust is treated/removed as far as possible, fit the ring and then run a ring of epoxy adhesive around both edges of the ring to hold it in place, keeping the square holes clear.
Don't forget that the main hub nut should not be reused and should be torqued up to 270Nm/200ft.lb

Thanx for the good advice. I did think that care would be necessary in derustifying the shaft location. Another prob i encountered was in removing the sensor retaining bolt which is a Torx & is almost impossible to remove. Looks like that will need drilling out. Rgds.

Just a further point on installing the reluctor ring~is it possible to install it from the hub end with removing the shaft? Has anyone actually done this? Suppose one will find out when one gets into it.

Thanx for that. Perhaps the biggest problem will be getting the bolts out. Rgds.
