My drivers side handbrake keeps jamming 'on'. Temporarily I can release this by moving getting under the car and releasing the handbrake at the caliper. I've squirted some WD40 down the hand brake cable (from the caliper side) and this seems to be working, but I'm guessing this would be a temporary fix. Is this a common problem? I'll have to replace the handbrake cable if it happens again (no pattern parts available, have to get direct from Jaguar). Interestingly, both times it happened are when there is salt on the roads. Any connection?
Any comments most welcome.

I think you've answered your own question James. If WD40 "temporarily" cures the problem, I would suggest that proper lubrication on the handbrake cables/calipers would provide a permanent solution.
As the X-Type shares its discs and pads with the ford 'Mundane' it's highly likely that the handbrake cables are also a Ford part....Worth checking before opening wallet and giving all your money to Jaguar only to receive a blue oval in a green box....
Been there done it.

Yes the X type and Mondeo Mk3 share around 20% of its parts
But surely for the cable to be the same the distance from the handbrake to the caliper and the route it takes around the different floorpan to the Mondeo would need to be the same which they arent?

Just an addition to this topic - the handbrake cables are a notorious weak point on these cars and very expensive.
We had them done on our D Estate and from memory it was over £200 at Guy Salmon in Oxford...
I'm sure it could have been done cheaper elsewhere, but if it says Jaguar on the bonnet it has to say jaguar over the door of the service department
