manual to auto conversion on 2007 2.2 diesel X type

OK chaps, here is a daft question:
Is it possible to change the current 6 speed manual gearbox to a later 2008 onwards Auto gearbox?

Why? I've recently had shoulder surgery and it remains painful / difficult to change gear. I'd like to buy an XF but cannot afford one and apart from the gearbox, the X type that we have is a lovely car, especially as it is a Sovereign estate with just 40000 mile on it. So, I'd rather change the gearbox rather than the whole car which would be an unknown entity.

Any thoughts please?

unfortunately i think its more complicated than that

as the whole of the cars ECU system would need to be changed, and an electronic gearbox ECU installed and all associated wiring, then there is the physical change to the cars gearbox and drive train

in this world there is not really that much that can't be done, but you may find it cheaper and quicker to sell your car, and buy an auto version
