Has anyone had any experiance of these do they work and are they likely to cause any other issues (my car is now out of its warranty period ).
DPT Chips
Moderators:Dave Eynon, steveisleofwight
Hi I'm a new member, I now have a 2.0d x type which I find does not have quite the get up and go of my old 3 litre one. Fitting a DPT chip as been suggested to me to increase torque and BHP therefore giving increased performance /economy. (a stated 10-15% increase in MPG)

Torquing of Cats
The "Torquing of Cats" plug in module for the 2.0 diesel may interest you.
This is sold by Adamesh at £365 and they claim +20% increase in mpg, +30% increase in power and +30% increase in torque.
Other tuning companies do not always claim an increase in mpg because after fitting the device the owner tends to take advantage of the extra power and torque and so the projected mpg does not always materialise.
One of our members has tried it and comments as follows:
"Since being fitted to my car, fuel consumption has improved by around 5-10 mpg., & any perceived power increases cannot be measured, although the car feels more responsive & appears to accelerate better.
It only took about ten minutes to fit (by Mark Bristow of Adadmesh). Driving at 60-70mph, the fuel consumption was up to an incredible maximum of 65 mpg, which lowered to 55 mpg on my return to driving at higher speeds of between 130 - 170 kph (80 mph plus) on the continent".
I have not checked out whether the extra torque claimed (+30%) is within the spec of the gearbox and this might be the only downside.

DPT chips
These figures look almost too good to be true. Have you had an increase on your insurance premium as a result of fitting the chip? I assume that it is necessary to inform them. If there is no extra premium, I'd fit one tomorrow!
I fitted a ProBitz tuning box (£85 from ebay brand new) and the extra power is fantastic on my XJd
Rear wheels can spin now even in the dry and its only turned up to 5/10
Many on the x-type.org.uk forum and the .co.uk forums have fitted similar devices to X types (eg the Rover Ron box) and all have praised them
Best modification I have done

I remain a sceptic regarding chipping.
If it is possible for an aftermarket company to improve both performance AND MPG simply by reprogramming, then why didn't Jaguar do that when they first built the car?
Better MPG and Performance would surely result in more sales, which in turn would mean more profit for Jaguar?
Or is it simply a case of 'headroom'. i.e. the less you push an engine, the longer it is likely to work?
I reckon the latter. my slow old 2.0L x-Type has now clocked up 150K. I wonder if it would see 170K if I 'chipped' it?

Have used chips/remaps on many cars over the years
The same ECUs are used in may countries around the world.
Different countries have different quality fuels, different operating condtions, temps, etc etc so a wide safety margin has to be built into the ECU by the manufacturer.
Having good quality fuel and operating temps etc in this country allow chip manufacturers to take advantage of some of the saftey margins
As well as having done many many miles in other cars with no problems that have been chipped/remapped my XJ has now clocked up 110k miles and no problems with the now much quicker cars engine at all

Re: DPT Chips
This is a very old post but worth replying to..
I sold my 2.0l X type at 180,000 iirc, to a mate who then proceeded to put another 100,000 miles on it and another set of tyres...
He's still my mate.
Good car. shame he didn't change the turbo when it blew...

Re: DPT Chips
Re the chipping or re map. I had a S Type 2.7 D which has the PSA engine, fitted to lots of different cars eg JLR / Peugeot / Citroen etc So it's a stock engine designed to operate anywhere in the world. They can be tuned/re mapped call it what you will to increase BHP/ Torque but it could compromise reliability. However I had mine re mapped ( stage one which is quite mild ) and as a result got 40 BHP more and another 100 ft lbs of torque. But I only did about 4k a year and it was serviced every 12 months using the best oil etc. I ran the car for 9 years with the re map done and had no problems with the engine or electronics.
The point I'm trying to make is the engines leave the factory in a some what de tuned state as said before for reliability.
