Hi, my car a 2.2d manual 2008, went into like a limp home mode the other day, no acceleration as of such, almost as if it was suffocating a bit.
Got home. Switched the car off. Started no problem but still no real acceleration. No warning lights. Next day I started it up, struggled to idle, lots and lots of white smoke. The garage have had it for a day, no fault codes have come up at all, they are scratching their heads. Any help please supposed to be going on holiday on Friday.

Lots of white smoke usually means head gasket leak, but i would assume the garage would know that..

That is something I have just suggested so hopefully then they will look at head gasket.

Re: No idle and lots of white smoke
If you are not using coolant and the expansion tank remains constant at the full level then that would eliminate head gasket leakage from the possible causes. A compression test of the cylinders would be a simple engine health check that the garage could perform.
White smoke can be caused by a considerable quantity of unburnt fuel entering the exhaust. So much that it is exiting unburnt. Causes can be failed injectors, faulty EGR valve, even the timing of the injectors firing. If you have a DPF on the model then that can cause white smoke but as you have a rough idle I would be looking at injectors and the EGR system first. Assuming you have no coolant loss of course.

Thanks for all the thoughts, I put them to the garage. Just don’t understand the fact everything felt perfect before and no warning lights, and when the garage pug in to read it, still nothing.
Cars will be the death of me. This could be one less Xtype on the road.

Re: No idle and lots of white smoke
There is probably a straight forward solution that may not incur significant cost. It's just identifying the cause and hopefully your garage has the capabilities and experience to do just that.
It would be a shame to lose an X-type for want of a simple fix. Fingers crossed there will be good news.
A friend had exactly the same symptoms on his 2.2 estate which also happened without warning. In his case it was a split turbo hose that was the cause. It wasn't easy to see but the split was there and just required a proper examination in order to identify it.

Hi Howard,
Sorry to hear about your problems.
I can't offer any help but I hope you get it sorted.
Must be very frustrating.
Good luck anyway.

Re: No idle and lots of white smoke
Thanks for all your advice and views, I have to car back now, with a new egr valve and Mass sensor. Also a bill of £830.00.
The car still needs a service, which is another £250?
I find now I don’t trust the car, sensing what I feel are little miss fires, and the engine is not running as smooth as it did on turn over.
Had a suv as a courtesy car, now thinking E pace
But again, being a member of this supportive and helpful club is worth every penny.
Obviously due to the direction Jaguar are heading and my motoring needs if I buy an E pace it will be my last ever jag.
I will buy a lotto ticket to see if that helps lol
