I have a 2.2 Diesel X Type automatic, The idle speed is low at around 740rpm and is creating a violent engine vibration . this has progressively got worse over last few months, My local garage has tried several things but to no avail. Jaguar has now priced themselves out of site at £200 an hour labour so not going there. Belts seem fine. Any ideas please. I live North Norfolk.
Car runs very well.

Hi, I have the same car as yourself, although as an estate. I had the same problem and my garage diagnosis was the flywheel. I seem to remember that it has two sections and they are "out of synch" with each other. My mechanic said it may well get worse but at this point not to worry. Fast forward I had the clutch slave cylinder failure and catastrophic failure of the clutch, consequently the clutch and dual plain flywheel was replaced.
I'm certainly no expert, and there are those who will have greater experience than my self who may well add to this missive. I would look at the prices of replacement flywheel and clutch as it will be an ideal opportunity to replace it.
In my humble opinion a decent garage would be confident in replacing these item, if indeed the flywheel is the cause.
