Hi
very pleased with my X Type estate (2.0L Diesel, 85K) but since I bought it, 01 Apr 10, it does seem to stall easily. Now I know that the first couple of times it could have been my fault but trying to pull away in a 2.0L diesel on a flat surface should be straight forward. I have not had any codes displayed or any warning light come on. Also I have noticed very occasionally the car seems to mis-fire in 4th or 5th at around 1800 - 2000 rpm. The mis-fire is very slight but noticeable and occurs without heavy load applied. It always seems to occur when cruising around 50 mph.
Anyone suffering the same?
Thanks
Bob

Realise this is a year on now, but, yes, our 2.0 D X-type stalls when pulling away. It's getting quite dangerous as it takes a while to restart and invariably leaves us halfway across the road. It happens to both drivers.
At first I thought we hadn't got used to the clutch but with two months of ownership and several thousand miles, either we're never going to or there is something amiss. I also think it may happen more when the engine is cold but aside from that, there doesn't seem to be any pattern. I did also think my wife's reluctance to change into 1st was at fault, but it happens even in 1st and when we haven't completely come to a halt.
This apart, the car runs smoothly and pulls well.

Re: Stalling and mis-fire
Hi Al.
Good to be back,eh?
Having nothing better to do.......I blogged this on all the usual Jaguar and Ford Mondeo sites.
If revs are let to drop below 700rpm, the ecu stops the car dead. This is apparently to protect the rather curious and unreliable dual mass flywheel and clutch. (Valeo, incidentally market a conventional clutch kit for the Mondeo which is more reliable and will not shower the starter innards with metal dust and particles as does the dual mass unit when it begins to fail. Check to see if it will fit the X-type)
Their would appear to be several causes for the diesel to stall. Typically issues with cam sensors, egr valves predominate etc.
There is much interesting info on the net regarding this problem. Jagforum, however seems rather non conclusive on the problem.
Some research need on this issue I feel. There would appear to be several faults which can cause a stall scenario.

Re: Stalling and mis-fire
That's very interesting,Mike.
The 700 rpm thing fits the bill quite well, and yes it's good to be back.
I've just begun researching DMF - what a nightmare! £700 -£800 to change the clutch? Jeez!

Re: Stalling and mis-fire
My pal runs a large fleet of diesel TDCi Mondeo cars as cabs. He knows them inside out.
When he buys a new cab, the DMF comes straight off and into the bin. The Valeo unit is a fraction of the price and comes complete with new flywheel and all the other gubbins. That done, my pal gets a reliable cab.
This might be the way forward with X-type clutch issues.

Re: Stalling and mis-fire
Here are the details for the solid flywheel kit for a Mondeo. Check to see that it is suitable for the X-type before committing.

Note that the concentric slave cylinder is at extra cost.
Best of luck.
