Hello,
I will wish you an early merry Christmas to all Jaguar owners.

My 2008 X type 2.2 sovereign estate is due a service @72,000 miles, my question is, at this stage in its life what should the service cover/ include, any maintenance that should be look at. Any advice would be appreciated.

As a petrolhead I've no practical experience of the Jaguar diesel range, however, I do know the service schedule for the diesel X type can be found here

Doesn't look to onerous or different to other years if it's been regularly and properly maintained to date.

Diesel owners may be able to add some other things to do based on their own experiences

Only thing you might add, if it’s an automatic, is drain and replace transmission fluid. This is not in jaguar service schedule but most agree it’s a good idea at that age and mileage. If it’s manual then please ignore me!

Good point Andy. I missed that the schedule has no mention of the gearbox nor the differential. If not done already I would say change them both in any car at this mileage. Here's the relevant spec page from Jaguar

Hi hope the service goes to plan.
I would include a thorough check of the brakes for pad and disc wear/condition and the brake pipes for corrosion or damage / perishing of the flexibles. All suspension and steering joints for wear or damage to dust covers etc.
Whilst underneath a thorough inspection of the underbody noting any areas where some intervention is going to be needed to arrest any corrosion. Check the rear suspension arms for wear and corrosion around the spring pans.
The only X-types (or any Jags of this era) which will survive into the future are the ones that receive more than the Jaguar service schedule. With this extra work regularly undertaken it should help to keep the repair bills down and extend the life.
