New to Jaguar land!

Postby Frenchdavee » Tue Mar 09, 2010 8:27 pm

I live in France (near Le Mans) and have just bought my first Jag, a RHD X-Type 2.2 diesel, manual, estate with 60k. I have yet to get the plates changed for France and put through the Controle Technique (French MOT), so any help on converting to continental headlamp pattern would be useful. So far I am impressed with the car, but its less than a week now! One problem I have found is that on moderate/hard braking there is a distinct steering wheel shudder-any ideas? Would like to contact any other French based owners. Lastly, is there anywhere to get a full manual on the car? Look forward to reading comments from other members.

Hi (again) dave!
You can download handbooks free of charge at present from http://www.ownerinfo.jaguar.com/extfree ... /index.jsp
Your steering shudder under braking sounds like it could be warped discs (slightest warp can cause shudder).
Manuals (called JTIS (which stands for Jaguar Technical Information System)) are available but the ones on ebay usually only cover up to 2003MY.You need v21 which covers diesel and was the last one ever produced by Jaguar before they went online via subscription only.
JTIS is handy for info eg DTC codes,wiring diagrams,maintenance sheets,fault finding,repair procedures with diagrams,torque settings,mechanical specifications,etc
Email me if you want to get hold of a later one that covers diesel

Shudder on braking now tailgate unlocking failed!

Postby Frenchdavee » Thu Apr 08, 2010 8:12 pm

Hi Buck-sorry for late reply, had problems in UK and had to spend two weeks there-just getting back to normal now-I hope. Thanks for the info re the brake shudder, I hope to get it fixed on warranty from dealer. I managed to get wheels off to check the tyre depth, but had problems with the security key, the nuts were very tight and a wheel had frozen on in one case! Must get another tube of copper grease! Lastly, the drivers window vibrates as it winds up, and today the tailgate refuses to unlock although the window latch seems to operate! Seems the latter is not uncommon. Well I have done nearly 1000m now, mainly motorway, and averaged38mpg at 64mph so probably fair figures. Found the engine superb, the seats very comfortable and the touch screen system excellent-must get latest French satnav disk. Drove from Boulogne home in 4 hr non-stop(240 miles) and felt very relaxed and no great aches-like the electric seats. When I have sorted the niggles I think I have a good looking, long distance commuter!
