New to Jaguars

Postby JagCH » Fri Oct 01, 2010 3:24 pm

Hi everyone,

The name's Gonzalo, I'm currently living in Switzerland. Recently, I've finally taken the leap and became the proud owner of a Jag.

The road to fulfilling my childhood dream of having a Jaguar was not straightforward: I have been given a BMW as a company car (my company is pretty much in love with them).

But last winter I've discovered, to my consternation, that my RWD car was useless on snow and ice, even with winter tyres, with the DSC trying to reign in the 220 HP without much success. It is somehow ironic that a company from Munich manages to build a car that is hopeless under conditions that they have for several months per year...

Motivated by the sub-zero temperatures to avoid being forced to use public transports (plus a long walk at each end), I started shopping for a second-hand AWD car, and after checking tons of Subarus and such, I came across a beautiful 2003 X-Type... It even had a manual transmission, it was (just) in my budget, so it fit perfectly the bill.

I have to say that at first I thought it was quite un-Jaguar-ish: 2.5l engine, neither completely "classic" in look (like an XJ or an S-Type) nor sporty...

But after driving it for over 15.000 km, I have to say that she seduced me completely... The elegant looks, the relative quick throttle response and good handling characteristics, and the superb performance in road conditions that I would have considered to be impracticable before have won me over and now I love my Jag unconditionally!

Hi Gonzalo,
Welcome to the X Type Forum, I am the new Xtype forum co-ordinator, I share your feelings withregard to the Xtype,. Having had some ten Jaguars I had some reservations with regards to the xtype, however I am enjoying mine very much. I live down the road from you in Brittany France and will be attending the Xtype Seminar in November. It will be a grat opportunity to meet many other Xtype owners and get to know more about the x type range.
If however you are unable to attend please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance to you.
Regards Tony Murrell (xtypebod)

Hi Tony,
Thanks for the welcome!
I live down the road from you in Brittany France and will be attending the Xtype Seminar in November.
What seminar? Where? I've just subscribed here, so I'm just starting to figure things out.

Cheers,

Gonzalo
