Ebay Daimler???

Hi

Does anybody know the Daimler XJ40 for sale on Ebay for £2500 (reg F19 SJL)? Interior looks lovely and love the colour but does anybody know the seller (perhaps a club member) or the car? I love the interiors on these old Daimlers but still working on my x300 so would not want another immediate project but would be lovely to have a rolling car to drive to shows in.

Hi Tim,
Looks ok in photo's,not sure about steering wheel though,something's happened there and then there's the xjr badge on the back.
But might be worth a look or asking for better photo's.
Dont know if you know but you can check the M.O.T. history of any veichle if you have the reg No.

Don't forget to put Daimler in for make not Jaguar like I did and then wondered why nothing came up (fool).

That's really useful as I did not even know that service was available! Well from the write up it would seem he has done the sill issue and rear shocks as well as the tyres and he says new front shocks come with the car ready for fitting. I agree with you about the steering wheel which looks WRONG and also that strange piece of shiny metal around the two dials and why put an XJR badge on a Daimler?? Perhaps that was the previous owner. I wonder how much a correct steering wheel would cost if available at all and how easy to fit though.

I don't think there would be an air bag judging by the wheel he has on it at the moment,quite easy to change,just one nut underneath the horn push.

I'm always seeing what's for sale on eBay and if you check out the seller's feedback you can get a rough idea of what they are like.
The photo's of the item sometimes make me wonder how much they want to sell,like the Daimler ones could be better .

Yes I think it looks like that is an easy and inexpensive job and the next model along must be the one with the airbag as it looks like a much larger and squarer in the middle. I am gutted to say that although my wife has not directly said I cannot have it she has made it quite clear that she is less than enthusiastic about the idea. I tried to sweep her along with my own enthusiasm but alas it has not worked. Shame though because I have fallen in love with the trim. I think the 93-94 models are more reliable re electrics, diff and rusting but there is definitely something special about the detailing on these cars and especially the Daimlers. Never mind it has been interesting to learn something new and I am sure there will still be some around when I have my x300 on the road and so 'earned ' the right to have another project.

Cheers for looking for me I think that info will come in useful in due course and I hope whoever buys this car enjoys it as much as I would have done.

Enjoy your X308, I think the LWB looks stunning in the X300/308 The 308 would be too complex for me though as a newbie. What is the hydrogen cell that you have fitted, it sounds interesting?

Hi Tim,
When I first joined the club I put an post in the X308 Forum about it.

To keep it simple,baisically it creates hydrogen gas from water and is added to the fuel via the air intake and makes for a cleaner burn of the fuel and keeps your internal components of the engine free of carbon and also increases the fuel octane level so makes for a smoother running engine.
Never mind about the eBay Daimler your wife is probably right (I know mine is,she keeps telling me ) ,just channel all your energie to the one you have now,when you look for another one you'll probably find it has all the right stuff on it to begin with.
I have a week off work now so I'm taking the rear suspenion out and replacing all the bushes and giving it a clean and rust proofing the whole unit as well as the part underneath the car that you can't get too when the suspension is in there so I hope the weather stays nice as I don't have a garage,it all has to be done outside ,I have to wait until I have time off work to do major jobs like these as I use it every day to get to work but I try to keep her in the best shape I can.

Very interesting Andy and I hope the weather is kind to you this week for the work on your rear suspension. My car is on the drive also so not so nice working in the winter! I would be interested to see a pic or two of the work when finished if possible. I dropped the diff etc on mine also to paint up including the underneath of the car where you say. I am not familiar with the V8 suspension so my a-frame bushes had gone and the frame itself so bought a reconditioned one and replaced. Don't envy you though heavy heavy work!

Wow, yes that is a massive price drop. It has pics of the proper steering wheel on now too and who is not in love with those rear 'pilot' seats. Nevertheless, you, me and most importantly my wife all know she will always be right about this

I also like the look of this manual and the trader is RAC accredited for whatever that might be worth. I know the half leather seats are not sought after but I have to say I think they look quite nice in that colour. They give it a kind of 'rustic' appeal or is it just me?

I think having one nice car (at least) and one project car, makes perfect sense. Its definelty good to have something you can drive and not have to work on all the time.
I have a spare one Tim, if needed. the car does look decent. But as always a thorough inspection and test drive. Pictures never tell the full story, but they are good at stimulating interest in a car.

Did you ever go and see one of these?
this one here has good potential too, though i haven't checked the MOT history yet.
