radiator top mount changed over

Postby Brakebuster » Sat Jul 15, 2017 7:14 pm

my top radiator mount ( and the the bottom ) was a little rusty and needed refurbishing, but when i changed the rubber bushes some months back i had to force them in as three of the bolts were rusted tight

i was lucky enough to find the correct top mount bracket on ebay for about £18 , much cheaper than refurbishing my own , and this allowed me to ' damage' the existing one to remove the rusted bolts

so last night i decided this was the time to tackle it, cut the heads of the bolts with a grinder and drilled out the cores, and then unscrewed the remains, then i sent down an 8mm tap to clear the threads, i bought some new 8mm allen key pan head bolts in stainless steel , not only will they not rust, they look the job as well

before fitting i gave any ' raw ' areas a quick rub and spray with underbody sealant, but to be honest it wasn't that much , but i did give the underside of the new panel a good spray once i had removed the jaguar part number stickers

so , with it all installed it looks much better

the bottom bracket ( same as the X300 in my 1994 car ) has four bolts, and comes out from underneath , if i'm lucky i wont have to drill those out, but this lower bracket can suffer from kerb damage as its the lowest thing on the front, again i have a new panel bought very cheap to fit , but am on the look out for an intact non-split front under tray for the later cars ( Rob ? )
