Hi there. The crankshaft damper has come off my 1950 xk120..I have a New one but just wondering if it is safe to drive it to a mechanic? About 20miles..

I would think that damage could occur as the damper deals with the small pulses caused by the unbalanced forces in the engine. Could not the garage give you a tow to be on the safe side?
With an old engine any unusual disturbances could play havoc as tolerances may be at limits and if it was running well it would be a shame.
