Hi guy's, I have got to change the rear damper bushes, X300 1995 my, pretty much shot!
Had it up in the air the other weekend, bolts were solid! but some heat and sweareing. they worked loose, but rotted to the bush center!!!!
I have no problem with buying new bolts, just where the heck to get them from!!
Other question, would it be any easyer? to remove the existing dampers, and replace?
If so, how much of pain is it with the IRS still on the car? is it do able at all?
Why dont the workshop manuals give better info on this?
All info will be very much appreciated, as my spanner man hates Jag's with a passion, he had problems with a XJS, did the inbord brake pads and shoes!
Somebody may correct me here, BUT X300 rear damper bushes are not available as a seperate item, or at least they haven't been up until now, so the whole unit has to be replaced
Swapping the unit is not as eay as on pre 94MY XJ40's, the CORRECT way to do it is to compress the spring on th car, Jaguar have a special compressor that is very thin and will squeeze in the gap, and lower the damper away after releasing the four bolts at the top (which WILL be seized!!), what i do is jack the car up, and take the tension of the spring on another jack, release the bolts and gently, very gently lower the jack and take the tension off the spring, there is just enough room to manouvere the unit out, replacement is the reverse
