SLS swap?

Postby ssjamie » Wed Apr 15, 2009 5:01 pm

Hi, can you just swap SLS complete units for standard earlier units?
I have a 1991 xj6 and i can't see any pipes going to the rear shocks so i thinking mine have allready been converted, but my dampers are shot so would i just by a set of pre SLS dampers for a 2.9/3.6 xj40?

If your car has SLS you will see pipes to the rear shocks

The swap is easy, as you say buy two standard shocks, remove the old SLS shock and springs, after releasing the fluid feed pipe, drain the fliud, trace the pipe work back under the car and remove then use the blanking nipple from one shock to blank off the feed from the pump, remove the SLS sender from the r/h lower rear wishbone, tape up the electrical connectors, dismantle the old units on the bench, rebuild with new shocks and spacers and refit, test drive

just get the correct shocks to match your car, ie don;t put sport pack on a sov or XJ6 without changing the fronts to match

All shocks from all years will fit EXCEPT the very last 1994 cars which have X300 suspension at the rear
