My stearing wheel is slightly off center

Postby Den_XJ6 » Thu Sep 03, 2009 8:59 pm

Hello
Iv noticed my stearing wheel is slightly off center, is this a faut with xj6/ Jaguars?
Is taken my stearing wheel off easy? as im thinking in popping it off, straighting her up and pop her back on? Only thing that puts me off is the airbag  :? dont want her going bang in my face :D

Thankyou

Den

Best not to touch the steering wheel to adjust it back to centre because then you'll be able to turn it more one way than the other when full lock comes round. Get the wheels aligned at a garage but make sure they centre the steering wheel and adjust both track rod ends. The squinty steering wheel phenomenon arises because garages take the easy (cheap) option and align the tracking by adjusting only one side of the car.

try the solution above first

airbag removal on 300 and 308 is straightforward, XJ40 is a little more involved, you dont say what model you have

Hi Den

Have a look on the S Type bulletin board under steering and suspension you will find the answer there.

I did the job on my S Type and found it simple

PS You must disconnect the battery first and don`t forget the radio code
