i own a low mileage 1996 x300 3.2 litre .i am currently only getting around 13mpg,this is about town and short runs. is this about right ?

I think it might be a bit low. However, you could have a look at the spark plugs first. If they are a sooty black it would normally suggest over fueling. With the temperature drop recently and your short runs in town you are never going to get the engine temp up so fuel consumption will suffer. Crcked manifolds on your AJ16 engine might also trick the ECU into overfueling so with the engine running, feel under the exhaust manifold heatshield for 'blowing'. Cracks will be at there worst with a cold engine. Careful not to burn those fingers!

No not good, my old 3.2 40 gives 18 round the doors and I have a heavy right foot,

Even my XJR is better than this, so you ahve a problem

I would suggest geeting this on an mot emissions machine and se what the readings are, but this sounds to me like a failing or failed lambda or one of the cats gone down

It;s also worth changing the ECU temp sensor at the front of the engine, about 9.00 new from jag, it may cure it if you are luck

Remember if you cange the lambdas or cats you will need to have the new ones orientated in the correct fashion, I have only been able to do this on Jaguar diagnostics, unless anyone knows a sequence to do it without JDS
