Key Fob no longer operating functions

Postby Dsquared » Sun Jan 17, 2010 4:08 pm

XJ8 1998. Despite replacement batteries, neither of my key fobs will operate anything on the car. There is a beep from the engine bay area but nothing else.
Unfortunately, somewhere along the line I pressed the Valet button and now, although the black-headed key will open and lock the car, it will not open the boot - so I can't get at things in there. Any ideas would be very welcome to avoid a visit to the Main Agents at vast expense.

Take a look on the X308 BB.

There is a member with a similar problem on his 308 under the electrical section. Joe Turner gives some advice on the next posting.

You might find some tips that can help.

there is a set procedure for re programming key fobs, it may well be on the 308 BB, if not drop me a pm, I have the sequence here, the valet lock will only reset from the fob, once you have re progrmmed it to the car

I accept no reponsibility for this but I have bought a new fob off ebay for £50 and reprogrammed that and the old ( not working) one successfully. Also i bought a chipped key for £10 took it to my local specialist lock company and he cut it and copied the chip for £7. result 2 sets of keys and fobs for half the price of main dealer.

KEYFOB PROGRAMMING X300 XJ SERIES

FOR AN EXISTING FOB-

UNLOCK CAR USING THE KEY, THEN PRESS EITHER BUTTON ON THE KEYFOB 3 TIMES WITH ONE SECOND INTERVALS.

FOR A NEW FOB-

OPEN THE BOOTLID AND THE DRIVERS DOOR.
TURN THE IGNITION TO POSITION II WITHOUT STARTING THE ENGINE.
WAIT FOR THE SYSTEM CHECK LIGHTS TO GO OFF.
WITHIN FIVE SECONDS ROCK THE VALET SWITCH IN THE CENTRE CONSOLE 5 TIMES.
THE SECURITY SOUNDER SHOULD BLEEP TO INDICATE PROGRAMMING MODE.
PRESS AND HOLD THE LARGER LOCK BUTTON ON THE FOB.
WAIT FOR THE L.E.D TO STOP FLASSING OR THE SINGLE BLEEP TO CONFIRM PROGRAMMING SUCCESS.
IF THE FOB IS NOT COMMUNICATING YOU WILL HEAR A DOUBLE BLEEP AFTER 15 SECONDS.

TO PROGRAM A SECOND KEYFOB ROCK THE VALET SWITCH ONCE-
THE SOUNDER WILL BLEEP TWICE FOR FOB NUMBER 2.
PRESS AND HOLD THE LOCK BUTTON AS BEFORE TO PROGRAM.

WAIT FOR A DOUBLE BLEEP FROM THE SOUNDER TO INDICATE EXIT OF PROGRAMMING MODE.
REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION AND CLOSE THE BOOT AND DRIVERS DOOR.

New batteries for fob on DD6 x300. The method to get fob working again ie unlock car, press fob 3 times with 1 second intervals worked perfectly. Thanks to the forum.
