Removing Door Trim

Postby bossred » Thu Dec 28, 2017 7:49 am

It would seem that the "connecting rod" between the interior door opening lever and the exterior opening lever on the drivers door has become disconnected !! as I now have to open the window to open the door to get out !! Any advice on removing the interior door trim to enable me to get at the mechanism without destroying the wood and other trim would be greatly appreciated . My email is bossredlion@gmail.com .

Many Thanks , Chris

Hi Chris

JUST SAW ROB'S POST. This is for 1995 X300 Behind the inside 'chrome-look' latch there is a small plastic cover. You'll see a wee 'notch' in it, put a small screwdriver into the notch and carefully prise it out. You might break this small cover, they easily break, especially in this cold weather. So, now with the philips screwdriver take the small screw out, this will allow the plastic backing and rubber gasket to come off. The wood trim slides towards the front of the car, press it in slightly whilst sliding forward, note how it removes, with the clips attached to the back. This trim is fairly flimsy, so be gentle. There is a couple of obvious screws in the 'top' door trim that need removing, and one not so obvious hidden behind the rubber hole at the front of the door that allows the air to flow to the side window. Just pull the rubber off, and there it is. (It's worth noting the correct way that rubber should be replaced) Unscrew the 'Lock-Button', then lift that trim off.

The handle that you pull the door closed with, has a screw up-under the top of that handle closest to where you forefinger would be when closing, this is under a small pressed-in plastic flap (just pressed in like the first plastic flap by the chrome handle) prise it out and see the screw. Along the top of the 'bottom-trim' there are also a couple of obvious screws to remove, but note where they come from, all are not the same length. There are now only the usual 'Pop-out' trim buttons around the edge of the door, some are quite tough! However, note carefully....................There is ONE bloody great horrible 'clip-thing' that holds the door-card in place about the middle of this card towards the right side, (put your hands out as if feeling a pair of boobies, now put them in a central position the remainder of the card, the said clip is where your right hand is!) I just gave a yank on mine as best I could, and the door card came off. There may be a trick to removal, I think someone told me the card should be slid towards the rear of the car, not sure. Don't be too brutal with the last bit, good luck.

Pete has already covered the removal in depth, be careful and you will be fine

300 door handles rarely give problems, 40's were a real pain

I have 300 parts here if you need, just call 07747 130139, or email, rob.jenner@jec.org.uk
