XJ40 / X300 Doors

A quick question. I wonder if anyone knows if the doors on the XJ40/X300 are the same? I have an X300, I'm just about to fork-out £300 for the chrome-waist-trim on my rear off-side door. I've replaced the others, but there is no 'old-stock' of the off-side-rear, so it's a very expensive item. I have spotted someone selling new 'old-stock' XJ40 chrome waist trims for rear-doors, at a very low price, low enough for me to buy a matching pair for the rear if they fit! So, does anyone know for sure, one way or the other?
Regards

the doors are different, well not quite....

depending on year, the door rubber seal is different , XJ40 have the door seal around the aperture in the body of the car, and nothing on the door, I believe some x300 have the seal on the door its self ,

as for the trim on the outside , these are essentially the same

if you need an outside offside rear door trim window scraper with chrome, I have a brand new one, never fitted for sale (and a lot less than £300 !!! ), pm me if interested

300 and 40 doors are different and will not swap

door handle aperture is different

window frame is integral on a 300, separate on a 40

all 40 to 94MY had different hinges

40 has no seal apart from around the window frame itself, 300 has a seal all around the door

outer chrome, scraper trims are different and look very wrong when swapped over, they do swap, just

I seem to recall we had the same type of issues on one occasion when we got our dinner jackets muddled up, Rob. The least said about that outing, the better.

Thanks Rob, I suspected as much. I'll probably just bite the bullet, and go for the correct one. Very tempting though, there's a chap on ebay got a job-lot of the XJ40 ones, and selling for £15 brand-new with wrapping still intact!

In fact i would suggest the vast majority of parts on X300 are different to 40.
It is in essence a completely different car in almost every way. * My opinion*.
Most of the common parts reside in the running gear/ suspension.

There are some interior parts that are swap-able, even though they are "different".

Thanks very much to all replies. Thanks Naki. By no-means is my X300 worthy of treasure status, I'm using it almost every day, and doing about 7-8 thousand a year. Fortunately (for the car) I'm 20 miles from work along good trunk-roads worthy of any speeds. I try to get my car up to 'naughty-speeds' on every 'turn-out' a good-blast to over the ton is fairly regular, it's a Jaguar after-all. Unfortunately for my pocket, it's returning about 23-24 mpg, which I think is pretty good for the way it's driven. I get about 28 mpg on a distance, sitting around 85-90 on motorways. It's 108 thou miles now, and it'll do a lot more with me driving it the same way. I've some very nasty rust on the off-side rear wheel arch, and about to rip the whole wheel-arch off with a cutter, also the near-side front wing, for which I have a whole 'same-coloured' replacement like new. This year might well see my lovely Jaguar without rust for the first time in a long time!
