work on the 40 begins

been doing a few small jobs, but i had to take of the wiper scuttle , it needed refurbishing, but more importantly i needed to ascertain the condition of the top of the bulkhead , to my relief it seems to be in great condition with no rot at all.......

as with most, my wiper scuttle was decidedly faded and in need of some TLC

so after careful removal and disassembly of all the attached components such as seals and washer units , i set to with the scotch pad spending an hour to rub it down

then a good brush down with a nailbrush to remove all signs of debris in the vents etc, , then a wipe over with panel wipe

some plastic primer, and then a coat of body trim black ( i use Upol satin black from a proper auto paint shop )

i am very pleased with the results even if it only lasts a few years, as i can easily do it again

There you go. I said it would be in bits by the end of the weekend!

A scuttle of which you may be truly proud. My old Granny in Churchdown used to keep hers spotless. She couldn`t stand a dirty scuttle. ..I could never understand why a grotty one caused so much grief. It used to make me laugh when she got coal dust on her face.....So keep yer scuttle clean and avoid incidents like this.

so this weekend sees a little more ' work ' carried out on the '40

i finished cleaning the carpets ( Ruby red ones ) and took out the rear seat bench , i have a pair of new rear seatbelt to fit so gave everything a good clean , i also took out the rear parcel shelf for the seatbelt, and as up front, not a single sign of rust to be found around the rear windscreen seals ,

new seatbelt fitted and a good scrub of the shelf and the seats and it all went back together really easy , and is looking really clean right now ( inside at least )

i have also just programmed in a new remote fob , these are available new from Jag, but are about £100 , so i bought a completely knackered UK spec fob ( cosmetically knackered ) and brand new from ebay US spec fob ( different frequency )


stripped em both , and made a brand new looking fob with UK internals, and a new battery , all for about £45 all in ,
took a few attempts to pair with the car, but have just done it , and will be much easier next time i have to do it ,

also fitted a K&N air filter to the engine, and put the stickers on the airbox, lol

i also have a brand new passenger mirror pod ( complete ) to fit i picked up for £20 on ebay ,

might have got a bit more done this weekend but helped changed the serpentine belt on Phils XK8 , and also cleaned out the TB butterfly , the old belt was prime for changing and the good news is that the tensioner pulley and the idler pulley were in great condition

It's coming along nicely. The 3.2 engine is a lovely engine, more then enough power for everyday use whilst remaining sweet and solid without the complications of todays ever increasing thirst for torque and speed.
