I'm hoping that someone has an idea or two that can help me..
I've recently picked up a '72 XJ6, however, after slamming the bonnet shut to get it home, I am now unable to open it again.
I pulled on the bonnet release - no response - so I used a pair of pliers gently on the cables, and they both came right off. So, I am now stuck with the bonnet locked and no idea of how to open it.
Any ideas short of grinding holes would be greatly appreciated..
thanks,
Chris

Remove the headlamp bowls in the bonnet, this will give you access to the bonnet hinges at the front, remove the 2 hinge bolts, this may allow the bonnet to be raised at the front to allow you access to the bonnet catches at the rear, be very carefull in supporting the bonnet as you raise it.
Try using an old wire coat hanger to slide under the bonnet to fish for the catches, hopefully allowing you to pull the rod that the cable is attached too.
Use plenty of masking to protect the scuttle, wing tops, and bonnet edges from chipping as the bonnet will not be stable once the hinge bolts are removed, take your time and I think you will succeed.
