X300 ABS Warning light
Moderators:robv12, xj40_register, Popsjag
Hi, can anyone tell me what could have caused my ABS warning light to come on. The car hasn't moved for a three weeks due to a failed clutch slave cylinder. Got car back on the road today and went a few hundred yards up the road only to have the light come on. I stopped and switched off the engine and restarted. Light went out as normal then as I drove off again the light came on.
Can anyone advise if the car is safe to drive despite Jaguar saying it should be returned to them, and any diagnostic advice or process I could go through, or is this a common fault and if so how should i go about repairing it.
Thanks Chris

Re: X300 ABS Warning light
Chris, drive it, it is perfectly safe, my XJR does this on the odd occassion, try a battery disconnect and reconnect, that may clear it, OR try a few good stamps on the brake pedal, that has worked for me also
if these fail, chances are a rear SBS sensor has failed or failing, so either a new one needed or a used one, try Neville at NE Jag Spares 0191 586 7770 he usually has loads in stock

Re: X300 ABS Warning light
I get this problem very occasionally on my S-type especially if I`ve used the car on short trips with HRW in use during the winter and battery terminal voltage has decayed. When that condition exists, the diagnostic on start up fails to complete satisfactorily and the usual effect is an ABS gremlin kick up. A good run to restore battery condition cures the issue.
I always know that when the ABS light or message centre flags up, that I have a battery discharge condition to deal with. It has occurred several times over the years and charging the battery to a decent level to date has always caused the gremlin to expire.

Re: X300 ABS Warning light
Hi Mike and Rob. Well like all blokes i decided to take the easiest route first. So after standing on the brake pedal yesterday morning before taking the car on a 60 mile run to work............... it worked, no ABS warning light and a lovely smooth drive to work.
Thank you both for the advice.

Re: X300 ABS Warning light
I took my X300 for an mot it having been laid up for 5years.It drove there without a problem however coming back the ABS light illuminated I checked the usual things like the fluid level and stoplight bulbs to no avail. I looked at the forum and the general consensus was to brake strongly, I must admit I was sceptical but lo and behold it worked TOTALLY amazed . Thanks it worked for me John Brady 75809
