Hi there, I have just got in after having my 1st (and hopefully last) near miss due to my auto box going mad.
I have a 1996 4.0 Sov with 65k . I was nearly home, driving at about 50mph on a 60 limit road. When slowing down for a large roundabout my engine cut out, I lost power steering, abs and the orange autobox failure light (top left of the dash) came on. Luckily there were no other cars on the roundabout, but I didnt think I was going make the turn and was heading straight for a sign advertising a garden centre or something. I managed to put the box into neutral and turn the ignition on and off, this started the engine up and I rolled to the side of the road. This also put the warning light out and it didnt come back on. I then drove the car home with no limp mode apparent and it drove fine.
I have seen the other posts on here about similar problems, and I will clean the connector under the car at the weekend.
I was wondering if anyone else has had anything like this happen or have any other suggestions, because it couldve been a nasty accident. If there had been any other cars around I wouldnt have been able to stop or I couldve hit the sign. I was also running it on LPG at the time and I was wondering if this could cause any problems.
Cheers again for any replies
Thought it was going to be a crash....
