I have just bought my first XJ, a 1990 4.0 Auto. It was described as being a 4.0S - but the log book doesn't actually say that.

So, what is the "S" variant? Does it refer to the auto "Sport" mode or a trim level etc? I've seen it referred to on other forums so I guess it does exist?

a 1990 4.0 will only be a base XJ6 , a SOVEREIGN or if you are lucky an XJR, the 4.0S was a runout model made for 1994 model year only
