Good Morning All
My '94 X300 4L Sovereign gear change has recently been a little erratic.
The problem is between 3rd and 4th gear.
When using the 'manual' side of the J gate it occasionally refuses to change from 3rd to 4th, when using the automatic option by leaving it in 'drive', the same problem occurs and when in 4th gear will occasionally repeatedly change up & down between 3rd and 4th for a short period (maybe 30seconds - or so) before settling down & operating normally.
The problem only occurs once the car is warmed up.
Current mileage is 197000.
Any ideas anyone as to where to start looking?
Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks
Ron

Re: Intermittent gearchanges
It's always worth trying a fluid and filter change as the first option on the basis that it's best to rule out the cheap fixes before you start spending any real money.

Ron,
Agree with David. Fluid and filter changes on those ZF boxes can transform change quality. Have you changed the fluid in last 40,000 miles?
