Life of Mercedes gearbox in XKR/XJR

Postby charlock » Thu Feb 12, 2009 10:07 am

I hope you'll forgive the cross-post from the XK8 forum but I've got a warranty issue with a failed box on my 4.0 XKR (see here http://www.jec-xk8-forum.org.uk/xk8bb2/ ... .php?t=612)

I'd be grateful for some background info on the real life of the Mercedes gearbox fitted to the 4.0 V8 supercharged cars.

With that in mind would owners of those cars be kind enough to post what mileage they have achieved with that gearbox and indicate whether it has failed or is still going strong. Any background on service history would be useful too.

Many thanks, Andy

Andy you really need to talk to the X308 guys, but in my experience the Merc box is strong and long lasting, providing it has regular oil and filter changes. It can suffer the rear flange unwinding in rare instances

I've had a number of V8 R's without transmission issues, all higher mileage cars and all used with 'verve'!!, all between 90 and 160K miles without problem
