Hi Chaps,
Just bought myself a 1994 XJR and thinking about getting some serious power out of it. I am hoping for a little over 400 bhp whilst retaining smooth running and reliability.
The plan is to get to know the car over the summer and then tear it down for a rebuild in the autumn. Who are the experts to speak to?
Oh yes, I know just about nothing about these cars other than they're fantastic value and silky smooth.
Regards

Re: Tuning an XJR
You want to find Andy Stodart. He did the original engine mapping for the AJ16.
I recall he gets about 450 bhp from his XJR.

Ah, yes. Now you mention it I seem to recall a fascinating article in the JE magazine written by the very man.
Ok, Andy, where are you?

Re: Tuning an XJR
I have a supercharged AJ16 engine with 412 bhp & 490 lbs. Main improvements are a sports exhaust, bigger pulley, sports cams (from the XJR/40) and splitting the intercooler from the main engine cooling system. Its quite a low level of tune so the smoothness and MPG is almost unaffected.
However, after a recent trip to Santa Pod I want more!!!! The chap who tuned it on a rolling road said that the limiting factor was the size of the supercharger. I have seen a couple of mentions of fitting the supercharger from the later V8 Eaton M112. Does anyone know whats involved with this swap? Is it a straight swap with minor modifications or does it require specialist machining etc?

again you need to find Andy Stodart, one of his 300R's runs the V8 supercharger, quite a big job as I understand, but Andy is your man

Re: Tuning an XJR
HI All,
I confess that I've not previously used these JEC bulletin boards, so apologies for taking over a year to contribute to this thread.
It was a major project to fit the Eaton M112 supercharger from the XJR V8 engine. Anyone undertaking such a project will need access to a machine shop and fabrication facilities. It would also be necessary to recalibrate the engine management system, as the increased airflow will saturate the air meter.
