XJ6 not running fires then dies

My beautiful but unreliable XJC is once again misbehaving. The engine starts first time, fires, then dies immediately. This is a 4.2 XK with twin SU carbs.

I can hear the fuel pumps running and the filter is visibly full of fuel so the theory runs its a spark problem.

There is an absolute buggers muddle of wiring around the distributor etc etc any and all ideas welcome. I've checked the LT connections and the relays near the dashboard.

sadly this sound as if it's one of those problems where i would need the car in front of me

I would be checking quality and age of fuel, fuel pressure, condition of carbs

on the ignition side, coil, dizzy cap and rotor, plug and king lead


i would also suggest a post in the XJ series BB as this is really the correct place, you may just get a tad more info from the guys on there
