Ah, the dreaded valley pipe?
I didn't know that the R6 had one too.
I'm not actually leaving, just downsizing to something that will fit in the garage; the 6 is taking up the space in the carport for her new (old) Freelander 2.
Got my eye on an S Type V8 locally but the guy is away on holiday until next Thursday and I am away for 2 weeks on Wednesday; ships that pass and all that.
I will still be Jagging, just slightly more sedately!
I've got the R6 in for an MOT tomorrow so I will put it in the classifieds once it has passed.
Or when it has passed in several weeks and several hundreds of pounds.
Not having much luck at the moment.

Re: BREAKDOWN DUE TO IGNITION FAILURE - HELP!
Watch for inner sill and floor pan rot on the S-type. Go for the pre-face lift or run out models with six speed ZF boxes and 4.2 V8 models. The 4.2 is rather more robust than the 4.0. The ZF gearbox is also stronger. The early model 5R55N Ford auto box is made from toffee. Ask me why I know! My wallet got hurt twice in ten years of S-type ownership!!
Regret I`d not go back to another S-type. In my opinion the X350 outstrips it by a mile in all departments. The X358 is even better. Even then, choose carefully. S-type and X350 are now old cars.

Re: BREAKDOWN DUE TO IGNITION FAILURE - HELP!
Well, it passed the MOT with a couple of advisories.
Near side front wheel bearing; interesting as last year it was both front wheel bearings with advisories on and I haven't had anything done to them so maybe the offside one got better all on its own.
Bit of corrosion where the front mud flaps fit, both sides.
I'll get that all sorted whilst I am away and then advertise it.
Mostly selling it (apart from the fact that it won't fit in the garage) for the same reason that I sold the last one; usually it is just me in it (which sounds ideal!) but it is an awful lot of car for one person to be looning around in, takes a fair bit of space up everywhere it goes.
60 today so probably time to downsize a bit anyway.
Although have just traded the X Type in for a Freelander 2.
Ask me about the Haldex system; go on, ask me.

Re: BREAKDOWN DUE TO IGNITION FAILURE - HELP!
Lots of manufacturers use the Haldex system which as far as I can determine is a thing that bolts on to the front of the diff.
it's a wet clutch system with a pump and filters; for some bizarre reason quite a few of the manufacturers don't include it in the service schedule so consequently the oil and filters don't get changed and then the pump fails and that's the end of your four wheel drive system.
And the control module throws wobblies too.
Damned fiendish these Swedes you know.
Mine failed 3 days after I bought the car but luckily fixed under warranty.

So, car running properly now after having had the crank position sensor changed so that is a result.
Exhaust leak traced to manifold downpipe olive so hopefully an easy fix.

Re: BREAKDOWN DUE TO IGNITION FAILURE - HELP!
If anyone is looking for a crank position sensor I bought this one:

It might be worth getting one as a spare, just in case.
Mine was quite corroded apparently.
