Belts

Postby tom.murray88413 » Tue Nov 19, 2019 5:46 pm

Hi

I have a Daimler double six 6l v12.

This week I could hear a belt squeal noise which went away after revs.

I started her up this morning in the cold and a noise had started when I steer. After 5 seconds a smoke comes out.

Iv looked at the belts and the small thin belt which goes over the fan stops and starts. I don’t know where to start. Could this be a belt problem or is something stopping the belts rotation. The noise is pretty bad from the steering.

Thanks for looking.

Your description is of a rotating component which has seized. The cooling fan belt also drives the water pump so it would be best not to drive the car at least until you have a definitive diagnosis. Ruining an engine by overheating it wouldn't be worth avoiding the cost of transporting the car to your repairer. Mike.
