Can anybody help please.
I have a 1990 Jaguar Sovereign 4.0 with just short of 70,000 on the clock.
It has given me 2 years trouble free running and is in excellent nick.
I have just spent £520 getting it through the MoT (tyres, shockers, bushes, brake pads). However, on completing the work the garage said the car had developed a misfire and was showing low compression in cylinder No 3. Have tried all the stuff with redex and injector cleaner to no avail.
The engine has always been silky smooth and now it is a real dog in spite of changing plugs. The only thing I can think of is that it was stood without running for 5 weeks before the MoT. Garage say a valve may be stuck.
Can anybody suggest a likely cause and whether I am going to be facing a massive bill. I don't want to be forking out another fortune if it sounds like a big fix.

It does sound as though you have a stuck or burnt out valve, AJ6 engines normally stand quite well for huge lengths of time without problems, so your five week lay up is nothing but coincidence I fear. Without seeing and listening to the car to diagnise is difficult, but I fear you may be into lifting the head off to see what lies within, Rob
