XJR ?

Postby barold » Sun Jun 09, 2013 10:10 pm

Whilst being the proud owner of a 77,000m 1996 Sport, I really want to get into the XJR experience.
Not interested in the V8 versions, I'm looking for a well cared for X300 XJR. If you have one and are looking to sell please contact me either by e.mail barrytaylor1@btintrnet.com or by phone 07724831095. Thanks.

Ah, thanks Rob, yes I have. A really nice 84,000 1995 example. OK it's way down in Luton, but have talked enough with seller to be convinced that "She's the one". So I'm flying down on Friday to collect Saturday, and thought I may as well pop in to the Scottish Jag day at Doune on Sunday on my way home.
Looking forward to catching up with you and everyone else there.
Cheers
Barry

Rob, sorry, but what's the format at Doune? Is it at the Hillclimb venue? Is it Jags only ? Open to the public or what? Do you have to register somewhere or be consigned to a public car park?

There doesn't seem to be much info about this, or I don't know where to look.

Thanks
Barry

Thanks Rob. I'm staying at the "Crags" in Callander Sat night. So I guess I'll head up to the venue
in time for a bacon buttie and a cuppa.
Looking forward to my Jaggy weekend!
Cheers

Well. Here's the beastie. My itch is now being so sensually scratched. The performance!! The sound! The handling! The looks!. I'm in love with an 18 year old again!

Thanks Tony. Yes, she's in fantastic condition (unlike myself  )

dh dove .... Is that a reference to the old De Havilland Dove? Used to fly from Aberdeen to Shetland in one of these lovely old things.

A gold star and go to the top of the class! I think you're the first person to work it out!

I worked for a company called Devonair at Kemble for seven years, we specialised in the Dove/Devon and serviced and maintained most of the UK aircraft and some foreign ones too. We held over a million DH104 parts in stock!
You're right, it's a lovely old aeroplane, but nowadays a veritable money pit Im afraid, only for those of a brave disposition and VERY VERY deep pockets. I would guess budget £30,000 - £40,000 to buy and have at least £100,000 handy for maintenance.......initially.........

I suspect that those few airworthy examples left wil not remain so for much longer.

Tony, Must have been a satisfying job working with those old buses.

Peters Aviation used to operate a couple out of Aberdeen back in the seventies. Before they were bought out by Air "Angela"

The old ex RAF types they had flying them were just as characterful as the planes themselves.

Ooh, I've just bought a nice reg now for the XJR , ends in.....GRR 8)
