Faded Mileage Display.

Hello,
The mileage and trip computer display on my 96 Daimler Six has faded so badly that it cannot be read accurately. Can this be repaired, or will I have to source a new display unit from another car? If I do have to replace it, am I right in assuming it will have the mileage of the donor car? Thanks in advance.

Dave, it will be the bulbs at the rear of the display that have failed, easy fix if you know how!!

remove the dash pod, four screws accessed from underneath, well hidden but essentially one at each corner, once these are out, lower the column to it lowest point and extend the column to it furthest point, then ease the pod up and back, get your hand in behind and disconnect the two multi pin connectors, open up the pod from behind and replace the blown bulbs

reassembly is the reverse as they say!!

you are correct if you swap the whole pod, you will gain the mileage of the donor car

Thanks for the reply. On the odd occasion when the display is a bit brighter (once every blue moon), the digits can look a bit broken up, if you know what I mean, hard to tell a 6 from an 8 etc, so I wondered if it was the same type of problem that can occur with the time clocks on these cars (including mine!). I will be very happy if it is cured by just replacing the bulbs. Everything else with the dash is spot on, just the mileage/trip comp display section. How many bulbs will I need if that is the problem?
One last point, if I need to change the unit, I'm guessing that I will only have to fit the display module from the donor pod as it appears to be a separate unit. Thanks again.

try the bulbs first, you need two from memory, tbh if you have to change the whole pod it is just as easy to do that rather than strip two down to get at the display module you need, I have pods here, all circa 110/120k miles

however if you have broken digits, bulbs will not cure that
