An LWB in red and cream? I thoroughly approve
How do you find out how many were made in a given colour / handedness?
the answer to this is not easy
I have build details of all XJR 300 manuals built, all 40 Majectics and most Insignia cars
These were gleaned through many long hours at Jaguar Heritage with other JEC members who helped me get through the long days of searching records
Firstly XJR 300 manuals are identified by certain identifier in the vin, 7 or 8 indicates RHD manual and LHD manual, and then another sequence indicates an XJR, so search for these, this gives you the number of cars built, you then trawl through and locate those vins, then input that vin into another system which gives you the build spec and some other original details
For XJ40 Majestics, we have a M in the vin as the LWB indentifier, and 3 and 4 as RHD and LHD auto, no manuals here!!, we also have the body number starting with a 5, SO, you search the Castle Brom body numbers for all bodies starting with a 5, you get 270 odd numbers back, you then translate this number to the track sheets and locate the vin, from here you input the vin into yet another system which gives you the original spec as before
For Insignia cars, there is no vin identifier, but we had a list of body numbers, this is all XJ40 SWB and LWB plus the XJS's, comes out at circa 375 cars, but I am aware of at least three that have surfaced since, so this number is likely to change as any other odd cars surface
We were only able to complete these tasks , due to the fact we had a unique indentifier in the vins, the samll number of cars involved and with full access to the records at Jaguar Heritage, huge help from the staff there and an immense amount of time, sadly with all the changes that have taken place this facility has now been closed to us
