Electrical Gremlins

Hello all, I came across some odd behavior today while out and about in the Jag. She's doing things that she wasn't doing before and it's all a bit weird. For starters, when I use the keyfob to unlock her the drivers seat backrest pitches itself almost full forwards. I need to re-set it before I can even get into the car. I'm thinking it must be an old memory setting so how do I re-set and re-program the memory seat positions? It doesn't do it when I use the key to open the door.

The other strange fault is that one of the two keys I have stopped turning the car on today. I popped it in the ignition as normal, turned, felt a click, saw the hazard lights flash on the dash (which hasn't happened before), followed quickly by everything else lighting up (after they had already gone off). By now the key was at the limit of its travel so I turned it back all the way, repeated the procedure again more slowly, but found that absolutely nothing happens when you turn the key against the spring to fire the car up. The other key works fine.

Any ideas what might be going on?

Im not sure if the later cars have immobiliser chips built into the keys?

I have had a similar problem with 2 of my previous cars and It turned out with both that there was a fault with the immobiliser chips in each key?

Though I know nothing about Jaguar keys?

Key fob battery expired?

My experience, certainly on later cars is that a key in the car without a key fob "present" ie a lifeless fob battery, disables starting ability. Might be worth swapping fob batteries and see if things improve.

Rob will perhaps know more about the system on these cars, but just a quick idea until Rob comes back to this Board.

XJ 40 does not have transponder keys, BUT later X300's do, not sure on the vin change point though

If you start your car with the transponder key, switch off and take that key out the non transponder key will start the car if you use it within a few minutes, if left for any length of time it will not, I too found this out the hard way with my XJR

seat memory setting is easy, set your seat and steering column and if you have them mirrors, then press memory and 1 ,2 or 3 on the switch pack and wait for a "chime" this is the memory set, repeat for the other two settings,

From memory if done with the key in the ignition the seats will set each time the key is inserted, OR if you want to move the seat to another stored position, just press 1,2 or 3 depending on which poistion you require. There is also a function on some cars, ceratainly on 308, where the fob will be programmed to a certain key and a stored memory position, which was useful her on our 308, Mrs J has her seat set SO close to the wheel thst I cannot even get in the car, one press of "my" fob and the seat set to my position on the unlocking off the car
