it's been quiet on here so I though I would pop up a few pics of my 1997 manual 300 XJR after some paintwork rectification
sadly this car has been out of action most of this year in March I got hit by and uninsured driver and to compound it all the following day I had a pheasant through the screen on the motorway. My insurance paid for the accident damage which was repaired very well indeed, new door etc, circa £3K of repairs, Autoglass put a screen in but damaged the paintwork, the screen then broke yet again. So back in October she went back into the body shop to have the Autoglass paintwork damage rectified, some other bits and bobs to bring it back up to scratch of the new paintwork, this included a new wing, mirrors, grille surround, roof and A pillars along with the bootlid all being painted, the car came back this week looking a million dollars imo, the drive home was pretty damn good, these manual XJR's really make you come alive behind the wheel, I love em, now to get my ex press car M64 FVC finished which is in yet another body shop, this one is taking longer that the Forth Bridge to finish though

Re: XJR UPDATE
Lovely car Rob, I had one of the 1990 NEC XJ40 Manual XJRs a few years ago, and though not supercharged, the car was unlike any other XJ40 XJR I have owned. All down to the manual gearbox I suspect!

Re: XJR UPDATE
absolutely correct, these things beg to be driven hard!! the manual box transforms the car into a fantastic car for the quiet Scottish roads we are blessed with here, lots of long open sweepers and quiet straights, however take it into traffic and it shows its other side, heavy clutch, agricultural gearbox, gear lever in the wrong place (for me at least) reminds me in a way of my old TR6 from years back

Re: XJR UPDATE
we have a long trip coming up, Shetland to visit our second home and the Classic Show in Lerwick, the best show in the UK btw, then back down to Orkney and home through Caithness and Sutherland to take in the Caithness Show on June 10th at John O Groats, I am in the lucky position of having to decide which car to take, the 2006 XJR was favourite, the rarity value pushes me to my 3.2 XJ40 Majestic, but then we have to consider the roads in the Islands and North of Scotland, open, fast, little traffic, it really is X300 XJR manual territory, we did it some years back in my first manual XJR, M313 MHM, a memorable run up the A9 to Scrabster for the Orkney ferry, so I heave sneaky feeling K44 will be doing the run this year and getting a severe telling off!!!

Re: XJR UPDATE
I'm considering taking my 3.2 on the family holiday from Peterborough to Tenby and back, returning via the JEC weekend at Telford. A rough calculation shows I'll use £240 of petrol!
I'm starting to see why people let these cars go for peanuts. I'm just grateful it's not a V12!

Where do you get that expensive fuel?I'm considering taking my 3.2 on the family holiday from Peterborough to Tenby and back, returning via the JEC weekend at Telford. A rough calculation shows I'll use £240 of petrol!

Furthermore, if you'd go for some 1.6 litre miniature car it's actual consumption would be not far from your Jag's on a motorway, since it will have to pull 4 people. I had experience driving 1.4 litre car, a new one, and it was extremely fuel inefficient when trying to move dynamically (as all traffic) and/or carrying a full car of people.
Traffic jams/ slow traffic is where your credit card will get in trouble with 3.2 litre!

Re: XJR UPDATE
OK, you're right, that is wide of the mark. Pressing the buttons on the calculator slightly more carefully shows £180 is more accurate for the round trip. I didn't say, the return journey is via Weston Park so it's a 600 mile round trip and I actually live beyond Peterborough somewhere you've never heard of, where unleaded is about 146ppl.
But, let's face it, it's not likely to be cheaper this time next year.
