drivers seat button?

hi all, new to the club and jags, i have a 1989 daimler 4.0l. the drivers seat has a button on it down by your right leg that just seems to move the seat backwards but not forwards? the other buttons on the side of the centre console all work ok, and the passenger seat does not have this extra button.
is this extra one for a seat memory, if so how does it work?

no not for memory the early 40 did not have this function, this button is for "exit mode", so you can move the seat backwards to aid your exit from the car
