Ive just bought a low mileage full history 95 3.2 x300 and I'm well pleased with it. However as with most second hand buys, after a month or so the little niggles start appearing. The memory recall on the driver seat seems to work for repositioning the steering column door mirror and seat height but it doesnt recall the position back and forward or the rake of the backrest. If you set it to auto the seat drops back when the key is taken out but does not come forward again when the car is unarmed with the key fob or key put in the ignition. As an interesting little twist to this a couple of times I've disarmed the car while approaching it then found the drivers seat has driven itself fully forward. All a bit strange. I know it could be a needle in a haystack job but if its on the car I'd like it to work. Thanks for any help or advice

sound like the seat transport ecu is giving up, try ringing round the breakers for one, 25.00 should do it, but be very careful as these units are very model specific, quote the exact part number

Hello Paul, just came across your posting. I have also just purchased a 1997 XJR with exactly the same problem - seat moves forward as you suggested. On my car,the memory button did not work so it could not be programmed. In fact it is at the auto electrician's to rectify.I have limited knowledge but problem as I am told, is all too familiar with the seat memory. I think it is a potentiometer(correct spelling?) problem and I was shown the offending part. It appears to be fragile and susceptible to dust and perhaps moisture. Anyway, in this part of the world (Australia, specifically Melbourne) price to fix is about $500 or GBP 240.00. It is a seat out job and pulling seat apart to get at petentiometer. I am suppose to collect car this Friday with the problem fixed. Of course if you want to minimise the frustration,turn control knob to off and problem is fixed. But, like you it should work and therefore I will probably persist until it functions as it should. Please let me know if problem fixed.
