Hi, another new boy on the block, however at 47 I'm certainly not that new.
I've just bought from I believe a JEC memeber via ebay, a 1991 XJ40 in dark red with full leather in cream and red piping, it came with a years MOT and 4 months tax for the bargain price of £500.
I first dipped my toe in owning a Jaguar a few years ago when I bought a 1993 XJ6 3.2S in lovely condition. At the time I was driving a 732i BMW that had a few scrapes and scratches so I put the Jag in storage in a barn in France only to realise that when they are not driven regularly they start to develop problems. The alternator pully seized and the fan belt shredded. I managed to loosen the alternator top and bottom it but couldn't work out if the radiator and front grill needed to be removed to take out the alternator. I also couldn't decide what was best, to pick up a second hand one or recon, so I did what I always do and left it for another day. Luckily it's dry stored and on axle stands.
Two questions that are probably very obvious to those in the know. Firstly, is it possible to change the square headlights with a set of round ones on the XJ40, and if so which model is best, and secondly, what differences are there between my XJ40 and XJ6, other than the wheels and engine size.
Pleased to be on board and hope to attend one of the events soon.

swapping your square lights for the quad units is easy
you will need, four lights, two mounting chassis, two bezels, two control modules
taking out the square lights usually meand breakig them anyway, but try and undo the four 13mm bolts at the rear of the unit, these will invariably turn in the plastic casing of the light unit, so break the glass and remove the plastic casing, take out the control modules fitted (theu only have one headlight connection), install the chassis, install the twin headlight control modules (plug and play), fit the four headlights and bulbs, not forgetting the rubber boots at the hack of each unit, them fit the bezels, finish the job by fitting the black plastic sealing eyebrows at the top of each unit, test, job done
