JAGUAR XJ40 central locking 1991 4.0 Sovereign

My central locking remote can be set and linked to car but it only then works a couple of times then stops working. The garage says it is the remote at fault but specialist who repaired and tested it says if it works once it is sending a signal so it must be Receiver/ECU in car that is at fault.
Anyone else had these problems before as getting hold of a remote for 1991 XJ40 is problematic at best

I think you really need to try a second remote before you can be sure where he fault lies, always worth having 2 anyway.

Do you have a genuine jag remote/ security system? Or aftermarket? It was not standard fit on a 91, it was a cost option, and one that’s seemingly rare..
If you don’t know, put up a picture of the remote.

I now know problem is actually with Fob which works intermittently
Do any members have an old one of these fobs for sale or any idea where i might get one from.
