Reverse Lights.

I have been fitting reverse/parking sensors on my 1996 X330. I intended to pick up a power source from the rear light cluster and in particular the reverse lights. However, I find that my reverse lights are inoperative!! I have checked in the owners manual and can not find any mention of a fuse for these lights! Does anyone know if there is such a fuse? Is it fair to assume that there is a signal generated from the gearbox when reverse is selected, and I could tap into this to get power? Alec G.

Hi Alec,
If I am correct, the reverse feed from the gearbox switch to the reverse lights goes through the rear lighting module.
The wire (i believe) from the gearbox to the module is slate/light green.
The wire from the module to the LH light is green/orange.
The wire from the module to the RH light is green/brown.
I also believe there is a relay feed from the RH heelboard (rear seat) fusebox - 10A. This may have blown.

Thanks for that. As you can see, I finally got round to fitting the sensors. I never realised that the reverse lights were not working. Cheers Alec G.

So, I had a look this morning. In the rear right fuse box area, there are seven small black relays with a blue stripe that say 20 amps. There is also a larger relay located further inboard which is brown - but I can't see any rating on it. Is this the one Steve? Alec G.

The relay I was referring to is part of the module (you can't see it). I meant that the feed comes from a 10A fuse in the LH heelboard fuse box (not the RH, as in my original post! Sorry!!)- then goes to the module. This may have blown.
If you look at the LH fuse box (I can't remember which way the fuses are numbered),starting from one end, you should have (fuses) a 10A; 10A; 30A, then 11 more. The second 10A should be the fuse you need to check. If I'm right, this feeds the reverse lights only. The wire colour (if you can see it) should be brown/blue.

Well done, Steve! That fuse was blown. I have now replaced it and I have my reverse lights back. However, I do not have anymore 10amp fuses, so I'm going to wait until I have some spares before attempting to wire up the sensors. Alec G.

I found some 10 amp fuses and have now installed the wiring. IT WORKS!! I am a happy bunny. Alec G. What next?
