X300 Question.

Postby Simont485 » Sat Sep 22, 2018 4:31 pm

What's it called??

When Jaguar launched the x308 there was a model called the Daimler Super V8 LWB. This model was a 4 seater as the rear seats were also eletric with the controls oner the tunnel between the rear seats.

So winding the clock back a bit I am sure I have seen the same seat layout in a Daimler Double 6. Again a LWB with the rear electric seats.

Was this V12 model given a specific name or were the rear seats just an option?.........and how many are there?

like this (X308 I think)

I think.

The V12 LWB was an X330. I don't know how many had the 'Four-Seats' but there was only 535 V12 LWB left the factory.

Thanks Peter!

So that's 535 Daimler Double Sixes.....does that include the Century models?

Seems to me that the seating was an option on the LWB V12s.....and the 6cyl cars too??

Hello Simon,
Here's a couple of web pages that you might find interesting.
The first one is compiled by our very own Rob Jenner and Letitia Mace:
http://www.exclusively-jaguar.co.uk/fac ... on-models/
This one is good old Wiki:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_XJ_(X300)
By the way they are the best seats to have by a mile in my opinion :D.
From what I can gather the only car they came as standard was the Daimler Century Double Six.
The Double Six and Super V8 were offered as an option.
Hope you find the answers your looking for.
All the best.
Take care.
Andy :D

The Daimler Six LWB (X330) also had the option for 4 seats. I know because I have one.

Hi Jamie,
I'm very envious ,if I'd of known about these seats when I was looking at buying my car I would of looked at the Daimler more closely.Just goes to show it doesn't matter how much research you do sometimes you just miss things.
Well done on having one,I think they are even rarer on the X330 than the X308.
Not sure if they were ever put in a SWB car or weather they only fitted in the LWB because of the reclining feature.
I came close to getting a full inertia from a LWB Super V8 last year but missed out on the sale :( .
Anyway I'll keep trying, they don't come up for sale very often though.
Might just have to get a Daimler I suppose(that wont please the wife, another car!)
Enjoy your car Jamie.
Take care.
Andy :)

So both the V12 and Six LWB had it as an option.....that I didn't know.

They are few and far between and I know of only one on Ebay at present!

Thanks for all your replies!

Hi Simon.

No, that figure of 535 was for the Jaguar XJ12 LWB.

Daimler Double Six LWB was built in the years 1996/97, and there was 1230 of them built at a starting cost of £66,450.
Daimler Century Six was only built in 1996, and there was only 100 of them built at starting cost of £54,750.
Daimler Century Double Six again only built in 1996, and again only 100 built, no cost was quoted because it was a 'bespoke' car.

The two above cars had the lowest production run of the X300, the next lowest was the base XJ6 LWB 4.0 litre at 205 units.

The lowest production run of the X300 went to the Jaguar Sovereign XJ12 LWB (overseas Model) 56 units.

I'm quoting from Nigel Thorley's Fourth Edition, Jaguar-All The Cars. A very worthwhile informative book.

I found a newspaper from 1st July 1995 and an article on the New XJ LWB and some of Jaguars plans for future models...…

Hopefully readable...…
