Headlight problem

Hi, I have recently replaced the light switch module on my XJ40 following it passing an MOT but finding the Hazard switch warning light would not flash when hazards were activated. It was not just a case of a blown bulb unfortunately. After the switch was disturbed I found the dipped headlamps came on with the switch in side light position and no difference when in head light position.

Now this switch has been replaced with a used one. I have hazards working fine, and high beam, working indicators. But, now I find the nearside dipped headlamp is permanently on when the ignition is switched on. When I switch on headlights the offside dipped beam illuminates to the correct brightness but within a second it dims.

Any ideas please as to what the issue is?

Thanks

Alan

Very likely the modules behind the headlights, over the years they get dry solder joints and play up. Eurojag sell used reconditioned ones, from memory, or you can take the back off and check the solder joints. They cause all sorts of weird headlight maladies.

Thanks Andy,

All noted, I disconnected the light switch and reconnected with the old one this morning. The symptom disappeared. So, I am not sure if this is still a problem with a dodgy light switch. However, I note your point. Thanks for your reply.

To all viewers I have now fixed this fault by replacing with another lighting logic module.
