Magazine X300/X308 forum merger

Although the X300 and x308 look similar there are many differences under the skin. Did the mag go the right way by merging them into a single forum? I think the XJ40 and X300 have more in common. Whatever your thoughts, should the magazine and online forums be aligned?

You could say there's many differences 'under the skin' whether it's the XJ40/X300 or X300/X308.

In my personal opinion (rightly or wrongly) it makes it easier for me to 'caretaker' the X308' forum until someone else volunteers to run it.

Perhaps if this happens & more X308 custodians correspond in the magazine (so Nigel Thorley has something to put in the magazine) 'the management' might look at separating the models again.

There's no point in having a separate forum page if we have nothing to put in it.

It's quite hard to persuade members to contribute something, however small, but the forum co-ordinators do need this involvement.

There are numerous times when I wonder why I bother ( as it's our own free time) but when you get people responding (positive or negative) it makes it all worthwhile.

I'm no expert - all my knowledge has been obtained by fixing (or breaking!) my own cars or advice from other people.

The most important bit is that we are all Jaguar/Daimler enthusiasts!

I wonder if the XJ40/X300 owners have more to talk about than X308 owners because the cars are a bit older and are a better DIY proposition? At the end of the day its all about whatever works. My opinion is that there should be more integration between the offline magazine and online forums. For example the articles and questions published in the mag could be posted online for members to discuss further. For example I'm sure the recent item about fuel economy would draw out some comments, such as plug in an OBD reader before substituting parts. Similarly content for the magazine could be harvested from the online forums.

I'm still the 308 co-ordinator, as Steve is with 300 we help each other out, BUT the amalgamation was agreed due to lack of any good, regular and reliable magazine material
If some wants to take the roll on and have a go at teasing out some good 308 articles, please feel free, OR write ME and article for submission to the magazine
